Swiss Travel Pass vs. Swiss Half Fare Card: key rules

  • Swiss Half Fare Card (CHF 120 for 1 month): gives 50% off virtually every SBB train, PostBus, lake steamer, city tram, AND 50% off almost all high-altitude mountain cableways including Jungfraujoch, Gornergrat, Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, Pilatus, Titlis, and Schilthorn.
  • Swiss Travel Pass (CHF 244–459): gives 100% free unlimited travel on SBB trains, PostBuses, lake boats, 90+ city networks, 500+ museums, plus 100% free ascents on Mt. Rigi, Stanserhorn, and Stoos (50% off Pilatus, Titlis, Schilthorn, Gornergrat; 25% off Jungfraujoch).
  • Panoramic seat reservations are separate: riding the Glacier Express (CHF 49 reservation), Bernina Express (CHF 32–36), or Gotthard Panorama Express requires a separate seat reservation even with a Swiss Travel Pass.
  • Kids 6–15 travel free: request the free Swiss Family Card when buying either pass and children aged 6–15 ride all trains and mountain cableways 100% free with a parent.
