Should you rely on a free Hotel Guest Transit Card, buy a municipal 24h Day Pass, or use a Swiss Half Fare Card? Enter how many days you're spending in a Swiss city and your daily tram/bus/boat rides to compare single fares against ZVV, TPG, Bernmobil, and Basel city passes. How Swiss urban transit & free hotel guest cards work
- Free Overnight Guest Transit Cards: if you stay at an official hotel, hostel, or campsite in Geneva, Lucerne, Bern, Basel, Interlaken, Montreux, or Lugano, you receive a free local public transport pass for your entire stay (including your arrival day!). Zurich does not offer a free hotel transit card, making the ZVV 24h Pass or Zürich Card well worth comparing.
- SBB Mobile EasyRide (Check-In / Check-Out): swipe right in the SBB Mobile app before boarding any train, tram, bus, or boat in Switzerland, and swipe left when you finish for the day. The app automatically calculates the cheapest combination of single tickets vs. a 24h day pass.
- Half Fare Card applies to city passes too: if you hold a CHF 120 Swiss Half Fare Card, even city 24h passes (like the ZVV Zone 110 day pass in Zurich) drop by nearly 50%.
